The AFI Awards...spruiking it to be the Oscars?
December 8th 2006 22:15
So the AFI Awards was broadcast on TV last night. Is that possible? Like an Australian Film Industry Awards show being broadcast just after primetime on a network television station?
Looks like it.
News reports leading up to it said that they were attempting to sex it up like the Oscars. Sure, when you bring in stars like Dannii Minogue who haven't really hit the bigtime in the film industry is sure to make it more enticing to watch. She looked hot in her green Dolce and Gabbana dress, but the eye candy doesn't say 'I've made a significant impact in the film industry!'
The night of nights for Australian actors...it's a shame cos I don't give a toss. It's hard to find fame here because we don't have the budget to do so. Or to bring big name Australian actors back home for the show. I find that a shame. It's like we have to beg for them to come for a day and all we get is Dannii Minogue who doesn't even act on a regular basis!
And the skits leading up the awards with Geoffrey Rush was a bit lame. Sure, I found it funny...but I just couldn't laugh. Maybe cos it looked quite amateurish. Maybe my humour just went down the toilet this week...
After that I totallly switched off and went to bed. There's something lacking with local award shows compared to the US counterparts, or the Brits. I just can't quite figure it out...
The whole FORMAT looks amateurish. Like a bad porn film.
Oh my did I just say that?
I guess they can improve next year...
